Every donation counts and has enabled us to carry out our daily actions for 18 years. The Zinsou Foundation is a private structure under Beninese law, which does not benefit from Beninese public aid. Our financing is mainly private and depends on the will of each one to support us.

The Museum for everyone!

Culture must be a right, not a luxury. The Museum, the exhibitions and the children's workshops must be free of charge in order to be open to all, without exclusion. The price of admission, however modest, could constitute an insurmountable barrier and exclude a large part of our visitors, especially the youngest who are the first to plunge into the formidably enriching adventure of visiting the Museum. The reality of free admission represents significant costs, in terms of exhibition creation, mediation, maintenance of the museum and welcoming the public. All donations are important, whatever their amount, to allow us to keep the museum alive.

A workshop opened to the world!

The Petits Pinceaux workshop is open to children free of charge on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and also on other days as part of school visits. It is often a first approach to education in the visual arts, which is virtually non-existent in Benin's current school system. Children can discover and practise drawing, painting, sculpture and dance, in connection with the current exhibition or with visits from artists in residence. Dedicated activity leaders, working with the outreach department, set up weekly workshops that are always full!

Supporting creation!

We believe it is vital to be in constant dialogue with the artists who are creating the work of our time, to welcome them and support them. The residency programme, which was launched in 2007, is one of the museum's great opportunities, as it has led to a number of exhibitions and a wonderful dialogue with our public. Each residency is tailored to the artist and their projects. The donations we receive enable us to adapt to each project so that we can be as relevant as possible.

Artists speak out !

Artists' words must be archived; it is essential to fix them in the present, for the future, so that they don't disappear, because they are the heritage of future generations. These words will enable them to understand the past and build history. During artists' residencies and exhibition preparations, numerous exchanges take place between the artists and the teams. These are recorded, transcribed, sorted, rewritten, collated and then validated by the artists. It is this work that is shared with the public through Archives du Présent. Supporting this publishing programme is one way of getting involved in the Museum's project, and enables us to publish our books at affordable prices and offer them as free downloads.

The Zinsou Foundation is an associative structure under Beninese law. In 2020, it was supplemented by a sister structure under French law, the Contemporary A association. These two structures with common values, teams and objectives, collaborate daily and support each other technically and financially. Contemporary A is recognized as an association of general interest in France, which allows it to issue tax receipts to its donors.
